Day 10: SWITCH-UP
For today's assignment, which was to change an everyday action in a public sphere, I thought, what is more of an everyday action what walking out of my dorm building? the start to my everyday. For my "out-of-the-ordinary" action, I though it would be fun to mix up my walk to with an old school portable DJ mixer / boom-box called the YAMAHA DJ X. Everybody has seen someone carrying a boom-box on their shoulders in music videos, and everyone has seem people with their headphones on, walking to class, jamming to themselves, but how often do you see someone walking around, bumping some tunes and DJ'ing on the go, spreading the good times? not that often. Thats just what I did. The primary reactions i received from others included some laughs, a few stares, and some "what the F%$#'s". a few people that i know from my building were up in a study room with the window open, and heard / saw me as i exited through the front door, and proceeded to yell out the window to me, as I stopped outside, sat down on my skateboard and continued mixing with equipment on my lap. A girl that i happen to know sat down with me, as i continued to give a concert to the passers by. Peoples reactions didn't catch me by surprise at all, but instead just reaffirmed the community vibe thats present in the dorms. Had i done this same thing in an area in which the crowd was older (and more bitter? not that older people are bitter), i may have not experienced the same jocular responses. I had fun with this one, and, perhaps because of that, received fun responses.
